The Shell-operated Prelude FLNG (floating liquefied natural gas) platform is the world’s first floating platform and also the largest ever offshore facility to be constructed.
The floating facility located in the Browse Basin, offshore Western Australia, will produce, liquefy, store and transfer LNG at sea from the Prelude and Concerto gas fields.
The FLNG platform will produce over 5 million tonnes of LNG, condensates and LPG per annum with economic benefits far reaching for an expected 25 years.
Recently, AusGroup, through its subsidiary MAS Australasia, has been hired by Technip for work on the facility and DOF Subsea were awarded a five-year contract to provide a full-time underwater services and multi-purpose supply vessel (MPSV)
Big-ticket projects such as these that create jobs including many downstream roles, provide valuable energy resources, and are at the cutting edge of innovation are indeed a welcome addition to the economic landscape.
